The May 10th Board of Trustees Meeting started by Fire Chief George Sheets recognizing all of the moving parts in an emergency situation. On the scene citizens trained in CPR, Emergency Dispatch Telecommunicators, Fire, and Police responders were all recognized for their timely and critical life saving steps.
A new communication tower will be constructed at Village Hall including decorative elements such as a clock at the top.
The most critical decision the Board made was adopting a formal funding policy for police and fire pension funds. Oak Lawn's adopted policy will improve our rating with rating agencies. Having a plan to fund pensions puts Oak Lawn ahead of the pack in the statewide pension funding crisis. The funding policy ensures that municipal debt will be reduced while using the savings to replenish the pensions. As debt reduces the pension payment will increase over time.
The Board approved the liquor license of a new business coming to Oak Lawn called Meatball Republic. They expect to open in the center of town by the end of the year.
