Santa on the Green
The Village of Oak Lawn partnered with the Chamber of Commerce to kick-off the holiday shopping season with Santa on the Green/Small Business Saturday. Residents parked at the Metra/Patriot Station parking tower and caught a special holiday trolley to the Village Green. Live accordion music was played on one of the trolleys and information about Small Business Saturday was provided on the other.
On the Green, Mr. & Mrs. Claus greeted children and their parents. A few of Santa’s Reindeer were on hand for fun photos. A mini-train and mini-Ferris wheel provided fun for young kids on Raymond Avenue. Frosty the Snowman, the Toy Soldier stilt-walker, Ice-Carving, holiday carols, popcorn, eggnog and cookies rounded out the attractions on the Green. The Library had a vendor section which showcased local businesses and allowed families to come in out of the cold.
The fun continued after the free trolley ride back to Patriot Station. The Chamber of Commerce team provided free face painting, free caricature drawing, free balloon animals and a special visit by Disney Princesses who entertained the kids. Chamber members sold sandwiches and snacks from Fruttea Cafe, Smilin’ Clyde’s Hot Dogs, Corner Bakery and newly opened Nothing Bundt Cakes.
Dozens of volunteers from the Village, Special Events Committee and Chamber of Commerce pitched in to keep everything orderly and fun. We would like to thank all those who came out to enjoy this free event, and would especially like to thank the volunteers who worked so hard to bring smiles to so many faces.
Please remember to Shop Small this Holiday Season and Shop Oak Lawn!
