What:  It's time to get crafty with a special holiday three-pack "Make & Take Crafts." We'll be creating fun sparkling bracelets, pine cone ornaments and paper medallions. Make one or all three crafts; all materials will be provided. Sign up is not required.L earn to make a new craft that you can take home. All levels of creativity welcome; all materials provided/

Holiday Open House at the Oak Lawn Public Library

What:  Make your list, check it twice for a Holiday Open House.

• “Here Comes Santa Claus” - Meet Santa Claus from 1:30-3:30pm! Parents, remember to bring your cameras for pictures. Free tickets are required for this program and will be available in the Youth Services Department, starting at 1pm. The tickets will be numbered, and children will be called to see Santa in numeric order. Fun seasonal crafts will be available before or after your visit with Santa.

• Jazzin’ Up the Holidays - Enjoy seasonal songs of warmth and cheer from 2-3pm with jazz vocalist Petra van Nuis, guitarist Andy Brown, bassist Jake Vinsel and drummer Bob Rummage return to make your days merry and bright.

• “The Best Way to Spread Cheer Is Singing Loud for All to Hear” - It’s the most wonderful time of year, so we’re caroling on the Village Green at 4:15pm! The festive, bright lights on the gazebo are the perfect backdrop to sing along to some of your favorite carols.

Operation Gratitude: Cards & Letters for the Soldiers

What:  Writing a letter is a meaningful way to show support for the men and women in the military. It only takes a few minutes of your day, but the note will bring lasting joy to a troop member.  The Library’s goal is to include several letters and colorful drawings (do not sign your last name or give your address) in every care package and tell our troops - “We care.” Place your cards, letters and drawings in the patriotic basket located in the second floor Computer Center.

Fabulous Holiday Trip:  “A Christmas Carol” at Goodman Theatre

What:  The Friends of the Oak Lawn Public Library, are hosting a trip to see “A Christmas Carol” at Goodman Theatre. There’s no better way to get into the holiday spirit than by experiencing the magic of Goodman Theatre’s “A Christmas Carol.” This timeless tale of hope and redemption is filled with the exciting arrival of ghosts, familiar musical numbers, plenty of “Bah Humbugs” and Scrooge’s joyful discovery of love. Max: 55. Please be advised that trips sponsored by the Friends are not wheelchair accessible. Cost: $65 for members and $70 for others.

Energy Assistance is Available – Need Help Paying Heating Bills 

Tuesday, December 15th – 9:30 a.m. to 3p.m. at the ELKS CLUB in Crestwood.  Located at 

4428 Midlothian Turnpike.  Applications for LIHEAP (low income home energy assistance program) will be processed at the Energy Fair.

Federal funds are available to families that qualify. One time payments are made directly to Nicor and ComEd to provide financial support to households. The winter season is just around the corner and along with the cold comes higher energy bills.  The application is fast and easy. 

When applying you MUST  bring: proof of gross income for the last 30 days. Original Social Security cards for all household members. Current Nicor and ComEd utility bills.

Community Christmas 


Wesleyan Community Church invites you to “Community Christmas”, a FREE event which will take place on Sunday, December 13th at 5 pm. This event is for people of all ages!

Our Community Christmas Event will provide a place that you can mark some things off of your Christmas “bucket list”!

     The annual Christmas Craft Workshop at Pilgrim Faith United Church of Christ will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 6 for children with their parents or grandparents.  It begins at 2:00 p.m. with Christmas carols and the lighting of the Christmas tree. Then children can make a variety of Christmas crafts, including their very own edible gingerbread house.  The donation per craft ranges from free to $1 each.  A “Christmas Treasure” sale, with gently used treasures ready for bargain hunters, will also be open.  For more information call 708-422-4200.
