Easter Egg Hunt

Greetings fellow Oak Lawnians! The village of Oak Lawn’s annual Easter Egg Hunt took place recently on a stunning spring day that brought out crowds of families to the Village Green to get a jump start on Easter.

Children in pre-school through fourth grade were able to participate in each of the three egg hunts, which were scheduled for 11:30 a.m., noon and 12:30 p.m. Festive Easter decorations surrounded the area where the egg hunt took place and this year’s event featured a special surprise for the kiddies. Several eggs had a note inside letting the children know they had won an Easter basket.

Dee Adasiak, from the village’s special events committee, said they had 8,000 Easter eggs filled with candy for the hunt. Heaps of eggs were sprinkled throughout cordoned-off areas on the Village Green about 15 minutes before the start of each hunt. In between egg hunts, families enjoyed music and playing in the playground. The Girl Scouts were also on hand selling baked goods and Girl Scout cookies.

Chad Weiler, director of business operations, was the emcee for the event. About 10 minutes before each egg hunt started, Chad got the kids excited and reminded them to check their eggs afterwards to see if they had won an Easter basket. As their excitement grew, the kids slowly crept their way into the designated area only to be told to get back behind the ropes. As soon as Chad said “go,” the kids scrambled everywhere gathering as many eggs into their Easter baskets as fast as they could. To make sure no child went home empty-handed, kids who weren’t fast enough to get any eggs were directed to a designated area where they were given an egg.

The Easter bunny was also on hand to visit with the kids, many who were wearing their Easter best. Families and kids lined up in front of the festively decorated gazebo for a visit and photo op with the bunny. The line was long, but it moved fast as children and their parents anxiously waited for their chance to get a picture taken sitting on the bunny’s lap. Kids also received lollipops and coupons for a free kids meal courtesy of Qdoba Mexican Grill located by the Metra Station.

The event was a lot of fun for kids and their families. A big thank to all the village people who worked to make the day special for kids and their families.
