Community Partnership > About Us
In 1995, representatives from Advocate Christ Medical Center met with Mayor Ernest Kolb to discuss national health initiatives and movements in healthcare toward health promotion through community partnerships. Mayor Kolb enthusiastically embraced the ideas and together with Christ Medical Center leaders, began laying the groundwork for the Partnership.
Servathon Program
The Servathon Program began in 1998 with Council members doing yard work and basic home repairs for the needy. Leaf raking and snow shoveling activities were soon added.
PADS Homeless Shelter Program
The Oak Lawn Clergy Association formed from the OLCP. They were the driving force in bringing the PADS program to the Oak Lawn area with the opening of the first three sites in 1998. PADS provides emergency overnight shelter, food and support services to the homeless.
Health Screenings
In 1999, the Partnership began hosting monthly health screenings at the Library. At its start attendance was low but today participation has grown.
Red Ribbon Events
The Oak Lawn Red Ribbon Committee first met in the fall of 1996. In the fall of 1997 they held there first Red Ribbon Kick Off event on the Village Green. Since that time they have added a Red Ribbon Block Party in the spring that involves carnival games that are sponsored by different schools throughout Oak Lawn.
The Partnership for a Safe & Drug Free Community
The Partnership was formed in 2001. It is made up of various schools, counseling agencies & community members. They host an annual workshop to discuss current and relevant youth issues.
ACE Award
The Award for Community Enhancement (ACE) was developed to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the persons or groups that promote our vision of making Oak Lawn a healthier, safer and stronger community.
