New Water Services

• Minimum size for underground water services is one inch.

• Water services will be constructed of type ‘K’ copper tubing.

• Water services will be installed at a depth of no less than 5 feet 6 inches.

• All connections on the water service will be of the flare variety.

• The Water Department will supply the corporation stop, buffalo box, and round-way at the time of the water tap.

• Water services will terminate in the building with the use of an IPS ball valve.

• Buffalo boxes are to be installed in the Village parkway. They are not allowed in sidewalk or driveway areas.

• New buildings will no longer use existing lead or copper water services. Existing water services are to be abandoned at the corporation stop/water main by the water/sewer contractor under the terms of the demolition permit. New water taps will be provided by the Water Department.

• Backflow prevention devices are not required on residential water services.

• Backflow prevention devices will be required on commercial water services based on their intended use.

• Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) backflow prevention devices will be required on all residential and commercial underground irrigation systems.

• Water meters will be purchased through the building department as part of the permit process and supplied to the plumbing contractor by the Water Department.

• Water meters are to be located at point of entry of water service. Ball valves are required fore and aft of the water meter.

• Inspections will be required for all aspects of the water service installation.
