If it is an emergency, we recommend that you call 9-1-1 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room.

Domestic Violence
Crisis Center for South Suburbia is a non-profit community organization that provides emergency shelter and other essential services for individuals and families
victimized by domestic violence.

Suspect Child Abuse
The Department of Children and Family Services is best known for its child protection services. Child Abuse is the mistreatment of a child under the age of 18 by a parent, caretaker, someone living in their home or someone who works with or around children. Neglect happens when a parent or responsible caretaker fails to provide adequate supervision, food, clothing, shelter or other basics for a child.
A report of abuse or neglect can be made to the Child Abuse Hotline at 800-25-ABUSE (22873).
Elder Abuse
To report suspected abuse, exploitation or neglect of an older person, the State of Illinois Department of Aging has a statewide 24-hour Elder Abuse Hotline:

Homelessness
South Suburban PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) is an inter-faith program providing shelter and support services to homeless persons. Compassion, hospitality and dignity are key characteristics of the PADS program. PADS offers free emergency overnight shelter from 7pm to 7am between October 15 and April 30.

Suicide
Untreated depression is the Number 1 cause of suicide. Depression IS treatable. Suicide IS preventable. People in crisis should call Hopeline at 1-800-SUICIDE, (800-784-2433) - Trained crisis line workers answer calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a 24-hour, toll-free suicide prevention service available to anyone in suicidal crisis.

Mental Health Crisis
CARES is a service that handles mental health crisis calls for children and youth in Illinois. You should call CARES when a child is at risk to himself or others, and any time you or others think a child is having a mental health crisis.
